Gordon Charles Froid, 93 of South Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at his home.   Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with Reverend James Travis as the officiant.  Interment will be at a later date in the Dakota City Cemetery.  Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to services on Thursday.  Honorary Bearers will be Jeremy Baker, Brooke Atkins, Carson Atkins, Matt Froid, Daniel Froid, Sarah Froid, Amy Froid, and Nathan Bradshaw.  Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Gordon was born on May 15, 1930 in Lyons, Nebraska to Lester and Helga (Svendsen) Froid.  He graduated from the Lyons Nebraska High School.   Gordon married Nora Lavone Bowman on September 1, 1950 in Blair, Nebraska.  The couple farmed in the Lyons area until 1964 when they moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska.  Gordon worked at Sioux Tools for 36 years, and after retiring, he worked part time at Kryger Glass and BNSF Railroad.  

Gordon loved doing yard work, and won “Yard of the Month” several times.  He was mechanically inclined and could fix anything.   Gordon was a big fan of the Nebraska Huskers and Dodgers Baseball team.  He loved spending time with this family (and his dog Toby) and wife of 73 years.  

Gordon is survived by his wife Nora Froid of South Sioux City; daughters Carol Baker of South Sioux City and Tina Froid of Arlington, Texas; son Mark (Susan) Froid of Hubbard, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister Helen Tippery of Tekamah, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, sister Delores, and brother Raymond.
