Gil B. Copple

Sioux City, IA

   Gil B. Copple, 74, of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 following a courageous six-month battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Logan Park Cemetery. 

   Gil was born on November 27, 1949 in Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa, to Ira Clarence and Leta “Tootsie” Eva (Gulick) Copple. He grew up and attended school in Salix, and went on to attend college in the Quad Cities. Following college, Gil returned to Sioux City and began work as an appliance technician where he remained for several years. After retiring, he began working part-time for Smith Cleaning in Sioux City, and continued working until August of 2023 when he received his diagnosis. 

   On June 29, 1987 he married Vicky Riibe in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

   Gil was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, and especially gardening. He also loved spending time with his family, and the family spent many years traveling to their cabin on the river in Ponca. 

   Survivors include his wife, Vicky Copple of Sioux City; children: Cody Copple (Tiara Hopp) and Kayla (Dylan) Link, both of Sioux City; one grandson, Owen Link; a brother, Ronnie Copple of Sloan; a sister, Twila Copple of Sloan; and a brother-in-law, Bill Johnson of Sloan.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings: Janet (Larry) VanAuken, Sharon Johnson, Sally (Don) Maddox, Benny, and Jack Copple.
