Gertraud Wojcik

April 23, 1928 — March 6, 2023

Gertraud Wojcik, 94, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, March 6th, at Westwood Care Center in Sioux City, IA.  Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 11, 2023 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with Father Michael Keating officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in rural South Sioux City, Nebraska.  Visitation, with family present will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Gertraud was born in Roding, Germany and had many tales about enduring World War II.  In 1949 Gertraud, her mother, father and brother Joe followed sister Anna to Hartington, NE from Germany.

Gertraud became a US Citizen in 1954.

Gertraud was married to Zygmunt Wojcik on February 9, 1957 and enjoyed 24 years with him prior to his passing.  While married they lived in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa and built their forever home in South Sioux City where Gertraud continued to live until last year.

A strong woman, she worked at Dura Pak, and later as a greeter at the local Walmart until she was 83 years old.

Gertraud is survived by her sister Anna Schaefer, brother Joe Rieger (Linda), sons Tony Vejar (Amy) of Trinity, TX, Mike Wojcik (Pat) of South Sioux City, NE and John Wojcik (Vilma) of Wesley Chapel, FL.  She has 11 cherished grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Kristine Vejar, Mark Vejar, John Vejar, Lauren Vejar, Anthony Vejar, Brent Wojcik, Lisa Wojcik Wenger, Stephanie Wojcik, and Jason Wojcik, Sergio Villanueva and Sherryvyl Villanueva Preston and 5 great-grandchildren.

Gertraud was predeceased by her beloved husband, Zygmunt, and her parents.
