Gerald Clifford “Jerry” Dickes, 84, a beloved husband, dad, and grandpa, passed away peacefully at his home in South Sioux City on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
A Memorial Service in honor of Jerry will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date at Dakota City Cemetery.
Born on February 4, 1942, in Hartington, Nebraska, the son of Clifford and Velma (Ryan) Dickes, Jerry was a man of deep dedication and warmth. He graduated from Hartington High School in 1960 and went on to have a remarkable 44-year career at Iowa Beef, now known as Tyson, where his work ethic and commitment earned him the respect of many.
Jerry was not only defined by his career but also by his passions and hobbies. He cherished the time spent playing golf, honing his skills at pool, and enjoying bowling, as well as cheering on his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers. Jerry was known to be kind and giving, all will be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol Dickes, who stood by his side through life's journey. His legacy will be carried on by his daughters, Sheila Dickes of South Sioux City and Jerri Emerson of Phoenix, AZ, Steven, Sandra (Florencio), Susan, and Sherrie, as well as by his cherished grandchildren, including David Dickes and Shannae Dickes and many others who brought joy to his heart.
Jerry is also survived by his brothers, Jim Dickes of Randolph, NE, and Don Dickes of Newcastle, NE; his sisters-in-law, Donna (Joe) Copley of Colorado, Chris Dickes of Ashland, NE and Shirley Pulkrabek of Yankton, SD. He held a special place in his heart for his nieces—Melinda, Angela, and Ellen—and nephews—Jeremy, Tim, Lyle, and Lyle Jr. (Laura).
He joins his parents, Clifford and Velma Dickes, his dear son Shannon Troy Dickes, his brother Roger Dickes, and numerous other loved ones who have passed before him.
Jerry’s memory will continue to inspire love and togetherness in the hearts of his family and friends.
