George W. Davis Sr.

George W. Davis Sr., 63, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away on April 20, 2024. Born on November 29, 1960, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Wendall Shaw and Beverly Schave. At age 11, George was adopted and raised as his own by Sammy Davis. Growing up in Sioux City, Iowa, George found joy in playing football during his high school years at West High School. His vibrant spirit extended beyond the field as he actively participated in the Boys Club, nurturing and creating lasting friendships and memories along the way. George was a graduate of West High School. On July 7, 1984, George was united in marriage to Linda L. Byrne and together they raised two children.

His professional life, George dedicated his time and skills to the culinary arts, working as a cook at various establishments throughout Sioux City over the years.

Described as funny, genuine, and always there to make others laugh, George had a heart as vast as the outdoors he loved. His hobbies included fishing, camping, hunting, and passionately supporting his favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings. Beyond sports and nature, George's proudest accomplishments centered around his cherished grandchildren whom he adored dearly. He was strong in his faith and enjoyed attending New Freedom Church where he was baptized on April 16, 2023.

George is preceded in death by his fathers; mother and father-in-law; and his brother Bobby.

He is survived by his wife Linda; His children: Mandy (Amy),George Jr. (Brittany), Raleigh and Jordan (Kira); grandchildren: Alex, Jayda, and Kingston; Mother Beverly; siblings: Teresa (Joe) and  John (Cheryl) ; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and a multitude of friends who will miss him profoundly.

In honoring George's memory, let us remember his laughter, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. May his legacy of humor and generosity live on in all those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Services will be held this Thursday, April 25, 2024 @11am at New Freedom Church - 423 George St, Sioux City, IA 51104. A luncheon will follow the service.
