Gene R. Loreth, 81, of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024, at his home after a long illness.
A Memorial Mass for Gene will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Mater Dei Parish - Nativity Church in Sioux City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Gene was born on February 3rd, 1943, in Moville, IA, to Joseph and Lila (Hanson) Loreth. He was the youngest of four children. He was raised in Moville, graduating from Moville High School in 1961. He worked at Hunting’s grocery store. Gene was inducted into the Army in 1964. He served in Alaska for two years, then continued for another four years as a reservist and was honorably discharged in 1970. After serving in Alaska, he returned to Moville and worked for Wayne’s Co-op.
He married Barbara Jean (Limoges) on August 17th, 1968, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, IA, they had three sons: Chad Jeremy, Cory Gene and Kyle Robert. They moved to Sioux City in 1971, where he worked for Firestone Tire and then Mid-American Energy for 32 years.
He attended Mater Dei Nativity Catholic Church. His passions included: hard work, fishing, tinkering in his shop and going to coffee with the guys. Most important to him, was the Love of his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Barbara Loreth of Sioux City, son Chad Loreth of Milford, IA, and his children, Cameron (Liz) Arnold of Spirit Lake, IA, Kaylee (Nick) Rivera and baby on the way of Ankeny, IA, daughter-in-law, Heather Loreth of Lawton, IA and her children, Hunter Loreth and Campbell Loreth of Tulsa, OK, Kyle (Alison) Loreth of Rhinelander, WI, and their sons Brenden and Conor of Rhinelander, WI; one brother Joseph of Florida; and seven in-laws: Larry (Diane) Limoges of Dakota Dunes, SD, Rodney (Cheri) Limoges of Sioux Falls, SD, Dale (Darlene) Limoges of Granger, IA, Randy (Judy) Limoges of Sioux City, IA, Tim (Becky) Limoges of Onawa, IA, Scott (Patty) Limoges of Salix, IA, and Todd (Diamond) Limoges of Lewisville, TX. In addition, he is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his mother and father; his father and mother-in-law; son, Cory Gene; daughter-in-law, Lisa Loreth; sister, Shirley Blackford; and an infant brother, Everett.
