Gary Wayne Hopp

Gary Wayne Hopp was born August 11, 1946 in Pierson, IA by a midwife to LaVern and Ella Hopp. He attended school in Moville, IA and went to college for his gen eds at Westmar University in LeMars, IA and graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, IA.

He married Marcia Robinson on April 6th, 1968 in Moville, IA at United Methodist Church. They had two children, Mike and Mary Ann.

Gary started working at Iowa Workforce Development in the fall of 1968. He retired in 2001 after over 30 years with the company. For a few years in the 1980s, he worked part time at Elfredo’s Pizza as a bartender while the kids were young. After he retired from Iowa Workforce, he took a part time position driving a cement truck for a few years with his brother Duane before he decided to work full time for Goodwill Industries for 3 to 4 years. He then went to work for Vocational Rehab helping people obtain hearing aids. He left there and finally decided to retire for good but helped out at the YMCA in the summers by driving a bus.

He enjoyed traveling, hunting deer and prairie dogs with his brother Duane, his son Mike, and some friends. He kept himself busy attending classic car shows and coming to Omaha to watch his grandchildren’s sporting and school events. Gary enjoyed hanging out in his garage but it is unsure how much got done out there besides watching TV.

Gary is survived by his wife, Marcia of 56 ½ years, of Omaha, NE; son Mike of Sioux City, IA; daughter Mary Ann (Mike) Roberts, of Omaha, NE, granddaughter Hannah and grandson Zane; brother Gene (Linda) Hopp of Hollister, CA; several cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane Hopp, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alvin and Shirley Robinson; a niece Kelly (Irv) Martin, and several cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 1, 2025, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.  Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery in Moville, Iowa.
