Gary Lee Dennehey, 78 of Westfield, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at a local hospital, comforted by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2024 at Holy Cross Parish, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Randy Schon as Celebrant. Interment, with Military Funeral Honors by the 185th Refueling Wing, United States Air Force, will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 25th, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Gary was born on June 9, 1946 in Sioux City, Iowa to Robert and Sybil (Whalen) Dennehey. Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, having spent 36 years at the 185th ANG in Sioux City. Gary married Rhonda Smith on May 12, 1995 in Elk Point, South Dakota. He enjoyed scuba diving, along with teaching diving, and was a member of the Siouxland Dive Rescue. Gary played racquetball every morning, and enjoyed gardening with 100 to 150 tomato plants. He was an avid fisherman, and loved his time spent at the lake in Minnesota.

Gary is survived by his wife Rhonda of Westfield, Iowa; daughter Briana Dennehey of Denver, Colorado and son Cully Dennehey of Kansas City, Missouri; siblings Bobett (David) Kreich of Grandbury, Texas, Michael (Marilyn) Dennehey of Haslet, Texas, Shawn (Darnell) Dennehey of Danbury, Iowa, Mary (Steve) Hodgins of Cushing, Minnesota, and Shannon (Ted) Daniels of Monticello, Minnesota; step-daughter Sarah (Delmer) Hays of Bardstown, Kentucky; grandsons Tanner Dennehey of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa and Skyler Frye of Gleester, South Dakota; great-grandson Jamison Smith-Dennehey of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Rosemary and Teresa, and brother George.
