Franklin Joseph Henrich, 89, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Holy Cross Parish – Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux City with Father Peter Nguyen, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery at Alton, IA. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass on Tuesday at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Franklin Joseph, son of Wilfred and Florence (Martin) Henrich, was born January 30, 1934, in Alton, IA. In 1944, Frank’s family moved to Sioux City when his father started working as a carpenter for Curtis Sash. Frank attended St. Boniface Grade School, West Junior, and graduated from Central High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1956 as an Airman 1st Class. He continued his miliary service by serving in the United States Airforce Reserve for four more years. For twenty-two years, Frank worked as a police officer in Sioux City. In addition, Frank and his brother Willie operated Henrich Sharping until they sold the business in 2004.
Frank was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in earlier years and was a member of Holy Cross Parish – Blessed Sacrament Church. He was very active in his church and took great pride in opening the church up each day for daily mass. He enjoyed camping, reading, motorcycle riding, fishing, and visiting with friends. He loved woodworking and made many pieces of furniture for family and friends.
He is survived by two nephews: Doug Henrich and Mark Henrich of Antioch, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Anthony, Wilfred, and Matthew; and one nephew, David.
