Floyd Walter Baber, 82, of Sioux City, IA, passed away March 5, 2023 in Texas. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 31 at 12:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Floyd was born on March 14, 1940 in Sioux City, IA to Floyd and Wanetta (Tubbs) Baber. He graduated from East High School and received an associate’s degree from Sioux Empire College in Hawarden, IA. Floyd joined the 185th Iowa Air Guard in 1960 where he made his career as an aircraft jet mechanic. He was activated with the 174th in 1968-1969 and served in Phu Cat Vietnam. In 1994, Floyd retired as a Senior Master Sargent and was supervisor of the jet engine shop. He had served 33 years. After retirement he made oak furniture, which he sold at art and craft shows.
He was united in marriage to Karen Moss in 1962 in Sioux City. Floyd and Karen had two daughters, Sandra and Kimberly. Floyd loved to golf, fish, play cards, travel, do woodwork, and camp. He enjoyed his winters in Texas for 23 years. He was a member of the American Legion in Sgt. Bluff and the VFW in Sioux City.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Karen Baber, Sioux City, IA; daughters: Kimberly Baber, Sandra (William) Heelan; granddaughters: Alisha (Kyle) Dietsche and Ashley Heelan; great-grandson, Ian; and his brother, Lewis.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret.
