Obituary

Florence Helene Campbell, age 84, passed away peacefully in her residence at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City, Iowa.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 8, 2026 at Nativity Church. A visitation with the family will be from 4:00pm – 6:00pm on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Florence was born to Kenneth Charles Lewis and Helen Marie (Weis) Lewis on March 11, 1942. She graduated from Heelan High School in 1960 and attended the University of South Dakota. On June 22, 1963, she married the love of her life, Robert G Campbell and together raised six children.

Florence retired from First Federal Bank in March 2007 after a distinguished career spanning many years. She served in a variety of roles, rising from entry-level positions to becoming an officer of the bank. She especially cherished the relationships she built with customers at the Morningside branch.

She enjoyed a wide range of hobbies, including playing bridge, mahjong, reading, golfing, and traveling. She especially loved traveling with her husband, Bob, and close friends from Sioux City. New York City was one of her favorite destinations, where she delighted in attending Broadway musicals. For many years, Florence and Bob were season ticket holders to Lamb Theatre and the Sioux City Community Theatre.

Florence was a self-taught, repeat golf champion at both the former Southern Hills Country Club and Whispering Creek Golf Club. She is credited with an ace on the 5th hole of SHCC on July 3, 1985. By all accounts she is considered a legend in the golfing world and was easily the best golfer in the Campbell family.

Florence was deeply devoted to her family and found her greatest joy in spending time with them. She especially treasured her role as grandmother and took great pride in each of her grandchildren. She attended every sporting event, school play, concert, and graduation that she could and was always one of the loudest supporters in the crowd.

One of her most favorite, and recognizable, roles was that of a “Green Coat”. For over 30 years, she was an active member of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors where she served on several committees and served as President of the Ambassadors. Every week, you could see Florence proudly wearing her bling-covered green jacket, attending Ribbon Cuttings, Open Houses, Business After Hours and the Annual Chamber Dinner. In 2014, she was named the Ambassador of the Year. Florence also served on the Board of Directors of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce.

Florence devoted her time to many of her passions. At Nativity Church, she served as a Eucharistic minister and was a longtime member of the Nativity Jubilation choir. She also volunteered for many years at the Mercy Gift Shop, the Bargain Center, Heelan High School, and was an amazing last-minute babysitter for her Sioux City grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Campbell, her parents, Kenneth Charles Lewis and Helen Marie (Weis) Lewis, and her siblings, Terry Lewis, Ronnie Lewis, and Kathleen Dion (Lewis).

She is lovingly survived by her children:

  •       Bobby Campbell (Gloria) of Virginia Beach VA, and their children: Dustin Campbell, Chris Campbell, Eli Campbell, Joey Campbell, Anna Quintero (Julio), and Henry Quintero (Rachel).
  •       Becky Doyle of Scottsdale AZ, and her children: Emily Hoberg, Aaron Hoberg (Margie), Alex Oldenkamp and Blake Campbell; and great-grandchildren: Hadley Hoberg, Bella Hoberg, and Olive Hoberg.
  •       Tony Campbell of Dallas TX, and his children: Hayley McDougal (Matt) and Hannah Gould (Brendan); and great-granddaughter: Reagan Gould.
  •       Teresa Campbell of Tucson AZ, and her children: Josh DeBoer (Kristina) and Jacque DeBoer (Allie); and great-grandson: Logan DeBoer.
  •       Mike Campbell (Jill) of Beavercreek OH, and their children: Ruby Campbell and Claire Campbell.
  •       Matt Campbell (Stacey) of Sioux City IA, and their children: Ryan Campbell, Luke Campbell, and Evan Campbell.

In total, she is survived by six children, nineteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
