Evelyn S. Hayes

Evelyn S. Hayes, 75, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away quietly on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Kingsley Specialty Care in Kingsley, Iowa, with her husband at her bedside. Born on May 22, 1950, in Sparta, Illinois, Evelyn was the daughter of Edgar and Palestine Laws. She was raised in Sparta, where she attended school, cultivating a spirit of kindness and compassion that would define her life.

After moving to Sioux City to live with her aunt, Evelyn continued her education at Briar Cliff College, where she graduated in 1977. Her career was marked by her dedication to service, beginning as a manager in the women's department at Sears, and later spending many years working for the Department of Human Services. Evelyn’s final role was her cherished position at the front desk of Charter Senior Living at North Park Place, where her friendly and outgoing demeanor touched the lives of many.

Evelyn was known for her unwavering support and generosity, always there for friends and family in their time of need, never turning anyone down. Her lively personality made it easy for others to talk to her, and her heartfelt compassion knew no bounds. She enjoyed corresponding with friends, engaging in Bible word search puzzle books, taking walks, and assisting charitable causes financially whenever she could.

On May 9, 1987, Evelyn married the love of her life Gary A. Hayes in Sioux City, Iowa. Evelyn's faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she considered her spiritual rebirth on February 17, 1980, to be one of her proudest accomplishments. She cherished her relationships and was deeply devoted to her family.

In addition to her husband, Gary, she is survived by her brothers, Edgar A. (Cora) Laws Jr. and George Duane Laws, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar A. Laws and Palestine Laws, as well as four siblings: Clarence Eugene Laws, Venita Rose Moore, Portia Eileen Laws, and Victoria Denise Laws.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Evelyn's life during visitation on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, located at 3220 Stone Park Blvd, Sioux City, Iowa.

Evelyn S. Hayes will be remembered for her caring spirit, joyful heart, and enduring faith, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
