Evangelina Nunez De Reyes, 58, of South Sioux City, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa surrounded by her family.
Visitation, with the family present, will be at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2023, with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., at Mohr and Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 18th, 2023, at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, Iowa. Reverend Jeremy Wind will celebrate. Interment will be at a later date in Mexico.
Evangelina Nunez de Reyes was born August 09, 1965 in Sombrerete, Zacatecas, Mexico, the daughter of Apolonio and Lucina Nunez. She was baptized in Sombrerete and later confirmed there as well. She attended primary school in Sombrerete. She immigrated to the United States in 1990 with her family. For the past 28 years, she has worked at Tyson Foods in Dakota City.
She was united in marriage to Saul Reyes Barrios on January 28, 1983 at la Parroquia Church in Sombrerete, Mexico. To this union, Five children were born, Alejandro, Sandra, Saul Jr., Javier and Edward.
Evangelina was an active member of the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, having served a Eucharistic minister. She enjoyed attending many religious retreats and her weekly duties with the Perpetual Adoration at the Cathedral. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for her children and grandchildren. Her many cakes will be missed at future celebrations. She loved to visit family in Mexico and loved attending her nietos many plays, wrestling matches and concerts. Evangelina will be remembered for her always positive attitude, her placing the needs of others before her own, for her sound advice, hugs, laughter and smile. Evangelina deeply loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was their number one fan and a loving, loyal wife, mother and abuelita. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband, Saul Reyes Sr. of South Sioux City; her five children: Alejandro (Amy) Reyes of Yankton, SD, and their children, Eva, Julia, Frankie (Panchito), and Anthony (Tonito); Sandra (Brian Parsons) Reyes of Chemult, Oregon; Saul Reyes Jr. of South Sioux City, NE; Javier Reyes of Yankton, SD; and Edward Reyes of Yankton, SD; her parents: Apolonio (Lucina) Nunez of Sombrerete, Mexico; her siblings: Eutiquio (Antonia) Nunez of Sombrerete, Mexico, Valentin (Beatriz) Nunez of Juarez, Mexico, Luz Nunez of Sombrerete, Mexico, Apolonio (Paula) Nunez Jr. of Durango, Mexico, Catalina Nunez of Sombrerete, Mexico, Sergio (Alejandrina) Nunez of Sombrerete, Mexico, and Manuela (Rolando) Hernandez of Sombrerete, Mexico; her mother in law: Antonia Barrios of Sombrerete, Mexico; her in laws: Asuncion (Monica) Barrios of Sombrerete, Javier Barrios of sombrerete, Amparo Barrios of Sombrerete, Lurdes Barrios of Sombrerete, Manuela (Asuncion) Barrios of Sombrerete, Soledad Barrios of Sombrerete, Anjelica Barrios of Sombrerete and Carmela Barrios of Sombrerete, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father in law: Pedro Reyes.
