Eva "Charlene" Kollbaum, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on August 11, 2024, in Sioux City, IA,. She was born January 26, 1936, in Dry Prong, Louisiana, the daughter of James Arthur Davis and Iver Mae (Brunson) Davis.
Services will be at 11:30 am Friday, August 16th at Meyer Brothers Morningside location. Visitation with family present will begin one hour prior to the service.
Charlene was united in marriage to her beloved husband LaVerne R. Kollbaum on January 23rd, 1954, in Bentley Louisiana. Together they shared a lifetime of love, laughter and cherished memories raising two daughters, two sons, and were proud grandparents and great grandparents.
After completion of High School Charlene furthered her education with Secretarial training and embarked on her career at State Steel after moving from Louisiana to Sioux City, Iowa. She sold Avon and Fine Jewelry at Younkers while raising her four children and was later a Supervisor at MCI for multiple years. She concluded her work career at Briar Cliff College in its scholarship program. Charlene's journey in life was marked by her dedication, hard work, and passion for everything.
Known for her kind and loving nature, Charlene's personality shone through in all aspects of her life. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who made every holiday magical for her family, which always included showcasing her exceptional cooking skills, with a special southern touch.
Outside of her professional and family life, Charlene found joy in many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed putting puzzles together, playing cards, watching her grandchildren grow, and being a part of her great-grandchildren's lives. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, cherished boating in Okoboji, traveling, and dancing with her husband. Charlene was also a proud member of the Red Hats Society.
Mourning her loss, Charlene is survived by her two daughters, Debbie (Larry) Vertrees of Munford, TN, Brenda (Brad) Schindel of Merrill, IA, and a son, Michael (Lynn) Kollbaum of Sgt. Bluff, IA. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Charlene is survived by her brother Roger (Gilda) Davis of Dry Prong, LA, and brother-in-law Larry (Alice) Kollbaum of Anthon, Iowa.
She is reunited in the afterlife with her beloved husband, Laverne Kollbaum, her parents, James Arthur Davis and Iver Mae Davis, her son Rick Kollbaum, her brother Art Davis, and her sister Dora Dee (Gary) Griffin.
Charlene will be remembered for her unwavering love, dedication to family and kindness. She has left behind a legacy of warmth, love, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
