IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eugene "Gene" Francis
Shockey Jr.
November 4, 1970 – January 6, 2026
Eugene "Gene" Francis Shockey Jr., 55, of Sioux City Iowa, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, in South Sioux City, Nebraska. His journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to those around him and a genuine passion for the world outdoors. Gene’s life was one touched by sincerity, kindness, and a readiness to lend a hand whenever needed.
Gene was born on November 4, 1970, in Sioux City, the son of Eugene Shockey Sr. and Verna (Ferdig) Shockey. Gene graduated from high school and found his true calling working as a mechanic, specializing in diesel trucks and motorcycles. His skilled hands and keen understanding of machines earned him respect among colleagues and clients alike. Yet beyond his mechanical talents, Gene was best known for his heart—a heart that found joy in helping people, whether fixing a stubborn engine or simply offering support to a friend in need.
Outside of work, Gene’s spirit thrived in the great outdoors. Whether casting a line while fishing, trekking through the woods hunting, camping beneath the stars, or embarking on exhilarating motorcycle rides, he delighted in the freedom and peace that nature brought. Outdoor sports were not just hobbies but essential threads woven through the fabric of his life, reflecting a man who embraced adventure with quiet enthusiasm.
Gene’s family was the cornerstone of his existence. He is survived by his loving mother, Verna (Ferdig) Shockey of Sioux City, who provided a nurturing presence throughout his life. His son, Eugene Francis Shockey III and his mother Taryn Boller; and Gene’s nieces and nephews—John Michael, Cody Allen, Brittany A., and Kaitlyn.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Shockey Sr., and his sister, Kimberly DeVall.
