Ethel was born on October 2, 1930 in Sheldon, Iowa, to William and Alvina (Hellman) Dries. She graduated from Briar Cliff College in 1950. She was proud to be a teacher in both Homer, Nebraska and Oto, Iowa.

On June 19, 1954, she married Norman “Stub” Collins in Sioux City. To this union, eight children were born. Norman passed away on July 28, 2008 in Sioux City.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Carmel Guild.

She enjoyed golf into her late 80s, until she realized her game would never improve, and was an avid card player (as long as we followed her rules!). She and Stub enjoyed dancing (square dancing), traveling, and loved  spending time with family, including attending all family events they were able to across the country.

Ethel was a very proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and loved every new addition to her family. She was loved and cherished by so many.

Survivors include her children: Michael (Kim) Collins of Denver, CO, Patrick (Sue) Collins of Glenwood, IA, Mary Jo (Rodney) Winchester of Sheldon, IA,  Jerry (Lisa) Collins of Sioux City, Judy Donovan of Sioux Falls, SD, Linda (Gene) Monk of Salix, IA, Doug Collins of Bellevue, NE, and Barbara (Billy) Shortal of Orlando, FL; grandchildren: Dan (Becca) and Nick Collins, Eric (Michaela) Collins, Lucy (Nathan) Hansen, Ryan (Millie), and Leah Collins, Lisa (Mike) Letcher, Laura (Kevin) King, Jessica (Alan) Pick and Kelly (Austin) Leigh, Brad (Ashley) and J.T. (Tracy) Donovan, Justin (Nicole) and Tyler Guy, Anthony (Emily) Clutter, Marissa (Adam) O’Brien, and Samantha and William Shortal; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Carol) Dries of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Collins; a son-in-law, Tim Donovan; and siblings: Alice Boland, Joan Nathan, Bob Dries, and Evelyn Miller.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to either Trinity Heights or Building Fund at Sacred Heart Catholic School.
