Ellen Louise “Honey” Griffin, 85, of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at a local hospital following a short illness. A Graveside Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Calvary Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Sioux City Country Club from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Ellen was born on August 28, 1936 in Keokuk, Iowa, to Raymond and Hazel (Ford) Cooper. She graduated from Keokuk High School, and attended the University of Iowa. On October 19, 1956 she married Michael R. Griffin in Keokuk. Michael passed away on January 28, 1994.
Ellen remained in Keokuk until 1967, then spent years living in both Iowa City and Portland, IN, before settling in Sioux City in 1976. She worked in the floral industry and held positions at many floral shops, including ownership of Elmwood Flower Shop and Honey’s Hobby. She ended her career at the Carousel of Flowers in South Sioux City, NE.
She was a longtime Girl Scout leader and a master bridge player, but her passion was in florals and anything flower-related, especially weddings.
Survivors include her children: Terry Lewis (John) of Valparaiso, IN; Donna Jeannine Forker (Wil) of Sioux City; Patricia Susann Hartwell (Rick Jahn) of Sioux City; Michelle Richardson (Kerry) of Arlington, TX; and Chris Namanny (Steve) of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Arlette Cooper of Chicago, IL; and Donna Griffin of Des Moines, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; brother, Michael Cooper; sister-in-law, Jeannine Griffin; brother-in-law, Daniel Patrick Griffin; and her parents, Hazel Ford Cooper and Ray Cooper, MD.
