Eldon G. “Al” Caskey, 78, of Sioux City passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will start two hours prior to the service.
Al was born on August 18, 1945, in Akron, Iowa, to Eldon and Helen (Poor) Caskey. Al joined the United States Air Force and served between 1963-1969, during those years he was in Korea and helped reclaim the U.S.S. Pueblo back from North Korea. In his younger years, Al owned and operated a Derby Gas Station on the corner of 19th and Hamilton in Sioux City. He went on to work for Mid-American Energy as a unit operator for over 30 years.
He married Linda Scofield on May 7, 1966, they later divorced but remained good friends. He met Cathie Doenhoefer in the late 1970’s and they married on June 26, 2010. Cathie passed away on March 2, 2023.
Al was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and archery. He even made his own bows and arrows! He also enjoyed riding motorcycles with Cathie and was a proud supporter of the NRA. When he wasn’t spending time outside, he loved to watch sporting events, including his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes.
He is survived by his children: Brian Caskey (Theresa), Tonya Munoz (Pablo), and Dakota Caskey (Aleah); grandchildren: Brianna, Brett, Blake, Thomas, Ariella, and Annabella; numerous great-grandchildren; siblings: Danny, Kay, Susie, Debby, Larry, Barbara, and Tanya; and several nieces and nephews, including Ed and Chad Olson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cathie; his parents; and four children: Rodney Caskey, Kevin Caskey, Jennifer Caskey, and John Matthew Schonrock.
