Eileen Jean
Rasmussen
August 22, 1946 – April 7, 2026
Eileen Jean Rasmussen, 79, of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at her residence. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City with Steve Stouffer officiating. Visitation, with the family present, will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment at Green Valley Cemetery in Homer, Nebraska, will follow.
Eileen was born on August 22, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa. She was the beloved daughter of Ross and Dorothy (Krause) Johnson and was raised in Homer and Winnebago, Nebraska. Following the passing of her father, Ross, her mother later married Marvin Schinke, who became her stepfather.
Eileen’s journey through life was marked by her deep love for her family, her passion for shopping and rummage sales, and her unwavering spirit. She was a proud graduate of Homer Community School, Class of 1964, where she met her high school sweetheart, Russell Rasmussen. The two were married shortly after graduation in July of 1964. She was baptized on September 14, 1965, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Homer, Nebraska.
Eileen and Russell spent a year together in Germany while he was stationed in the Army early in their marriage.
Eileen found great joy in sewing baby blankets and quilts. She spent much of her time crafting—making angels, crocheting, and creating macramé. She loved reading a good romance novel and attended numerous craft fairs where she sold her handmade items and Rada knives. She enjoyed collecting knickknacks, especially roosters, miniature sewing machines, clocks, angels, and various pitchers and bowls. Many of her favorite items included the word “Believe.”
Eileen loved opening her home to host family gatherings and cooking meals for everyone. She made sure no one went without, especially during the holidays, always ensuring each person received a gift. During the summers, Eileen and Russell were known for hosting their fish fries, where she served her well-known scalloped potatoes and her delicious lemon meringue pie—a staple at nearly every family gathering.
She worked for 17 years at Levine Cleaners, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. She was also a member of the extension club for more than 40 years, where she formed many lasting friendships.
Her most treasured moments were spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. If anyone ever needed anything, you could be sure Grandma had it tucked away in one of her closets or drawers—she would never let anyone go without.
Left to honor and cherish her memory are: her stepfather, Marvin Schinke; her brothers, Henry (Clarice) Johnson, Johnnie (Polly) Johnson, and Ruben (Joy) Johnson; her sisters, Frances (Jim) Madison and Mary (Harry) Krommenhoek; her children, Kevin Rasmussen and Tracey Peters; her grandchildren, Brianna (CJ) Nolen, Alec (Ashley) Rasmussen, Kalleigh Rasmussen, Jocey Peters, Jacey Peters, and Seth Shilling; and her great-grandchildren, Jaxson Nolen, Jacob Nolen, Hudson Rasmussen, Bailee Mortland, Waylon Bates, and Westyn Bates.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Russell Rasmussen, her parents, and her brother Eddie Johnson.
