Douglas W. “Doug” Black, 65, of Sioux City passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023 at his residence. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 25, 2023 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5-7 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Mohr & Becker Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Doug Black, referred to by his grandkids by Doo-glus, was born to Joe and Mari Black in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 10, 1958.
An enthusiastic person who loved bringing people's spirits up, Doug was intelligent and surprised everyone with his amazing historical facts and recall abilities. He was a great family man and was a father figure to many. His passion was his work as a CNA. During his over 23 years of work, he won CNA of the Year twice! He worked at Countryside for three years and Sunrise Retirement Home for 20 years. Doug Black advocated for Alzheimer's and cared for those in nursing homes. He also fundraised for many causes.
He was survived by his wife, Bertha Laso; daughter, Gisella Laso; grandchildren: Jorge Reyes and his wife Jackie Reyes, Diana Reyes, Steve Reyes, Gio Laso, and Paola Gómez; three great-grandkids: Alaïa, Ezra, and Alice; and his pets: Manchas (Chihuahua), Theodore (Yorkshire & Chihuahua mix), and Cookie (African Grey Parrot).
