Douglas "Itchy" E. Evans, 71, of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Holy Cross Parish – Blessed Sacrament. Visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 P.M.
Doug was born on August 8, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Carlos and Doris (Ewald) Alatorre. He attended Heelan High School before proudly serving six years in the United States Army.
On June 30, 1973, Doug married his high school sweetheart, Pamela Franco. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and family in Sioux City, where they raised their children and created countless memories.
Doug was well known throughout the community for his work ethic, humor and friendly nature. He managed Pro Image at the Southern Hills Mall for many years, then transitioned into operations at Gateway, and eventually became the warehouse manager for Sioux City Schools, where he worked until his retirement in 2020.
Family was the center of Doug’s life. His home was a gathering place for his kids and grandkids, especially on weekends and during long summer days by the pool. He was always up for a round of golf, a day on the lake fishing, or a ride on his beloved Harley. He especially treasured his annual fishing trips to Canada, a tradition he looked forward to every year.
Doug took great pride in his lawn, keeping it pristine and weed-free (sometimes with the help of a Q-tip, much to the amusement, and envy, of his neighbors).
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Doug had a passion for coaching softball at every level, from SYA to high school and college teams at Bishop Heelan and Briar Cliff. He impacted countless lives through his mentorship, dedication, and love of the game. He and Pam were diehard Oklahoma Sooner fans and held season football tickets for many years.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of nearly 52 years, Pam Evans of Sioux City; daughters, Tiffany Beavers of North Sioux City and Stacia (Jake) Delfs of Sioux City; grandchildren: Karlee (Jesse), Shalyn (Dayton), Shane Jr. (Emma), Brady, Colton (Kaylee), Kinley, Hannah, Madilynn, and Milo; Shayna and Shyanne Beavers and siblings: Terry (Andrea) Evans, John Savage, Pam Hubert, Debra (Jim) Clark, Carla Rose, Simon Alatorre, and James Alatorre.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Doris.
Doug will be remembered for his big heart, sharp wit, dedication to family, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind in the lives he touched.
