Dorothy (Beimers) Andersen

Dorothy (Beimers) Andersen, 93, of Sioux City, passed away January 26th at St. Luke’s Hospital. Dorothy was born July 1, 1932, in Hospers as the third of four children to Lucy (Feenstra) and Bill Beimers. She graduated from Sibley High School and attended Northwestern College in Orange City, where she met and married Ken Kreykes, December 1950. They had one son, Doug Kreykes.

They lived in Orange City, Harlan, and settled in Missouri Valley, where they lived for 18 years prior to their divorce. Dorothy married Howard Andersen, from Harlan, in 1975. They lived in Sioux City, West Des Moines, and Harlan where they built a home. They returned to Sioux City to retire.

Dorothy was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. She served on the Board of Directors for St. Luke’s Hospital for several years. She was elected two terms in the Older Iowans Legislature, where she served a term as Floor Leader. She was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization. She enjoyed reading, music, playing cards, community engagement, and trips to their lake house.

She is preceded in death by both parents, husband Howard Andersen, two sisters – Theresa (Beimers) Riemersma, Katherine (Beimers) Kuiper – and brother, Bill Beimers.

Dorothy is survived by one son, Doug (Jeannie Leonard) Kreykes of Windsor; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren: Bryan (Julia) Kreykes and their children Grace and James; Todd (Jen) Kreykes and their daughter Avery; Amy (Rob Davey) Kreykes and their children Thomas, Bradley, and William (all of Colorado). She is also survived by sister-in-law, Esther Beimers, of Minneapolis, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on February 28th at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City at 11am, followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Morningside Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Meyer Brothers Funeral Homes.
