  Doris G. Hinz, 82, of Newcastle, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023 at Sanford Vermillion Care Center in Vermillion, SD. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023 at Congregational United Church of Christ in Newcastle with Joyce Cook officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Mohr & Becker Hunt Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

  Doris was born on January 8, 1941 in rural Newcastle, NE, to Frederick and Sylva (Stejskal) Lewon. She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1958. Doris was a lifelong resident of Newcastle.

  On July 28, 1959 she married Wendell M. Breisch in Newcastle, and the two were married for 25 years but later divorced. Wendell passed away in May of 2015. Doris married Ray Hinz in Newcastle on October 17, 1987.

  Doris was a farmer on the family farm, and worked for many years as a dispatcher for Dixon County Sheriffs Office, retiring in 2006. She was a member of the Newcastle Township Board, the Congregational United Church of Christ, and was involved with the church’s Ladies Aide. She was also involved with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 62, Newcastle Fire and Rescue – EMT Unit, was a Green Acres 4-H leader, and was a member of the Newcastle Community Club and Newcastle Saddle Club.

  She enjoyed riding horses, going on trail rides, and going to the Days of ’56 Rodeo. She loved her rose bushes and irises, playing cards, crocheting for those special people in her life, dancing and square dancing, traveling, and restoring old cars.

  She is survived by her husband, Ray Hinz of Newcastle; daughters: Toni Wright of Newcastle; Susan Martinez of Newcastle; and Verla Wankum of Salix, IA; son, Clint Breisch (Joyce) of Newcastle; sister-in-law, Mary Lewon of Laurel, NE; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sylva; sisters: Luella Harder and Annie Lamprecht; brothers: James Lewon and Edward Lewon; and her first husband, Wendell Breisch.
