Doris D. Beckman

Doris D. Beckman, 91 of Jackson, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023.  Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Hope Lutheran Church with Reverend Michael Awe officiating.  Visitation, with the family present, will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.  A private family interment will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.  Online memorials may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com 

Doris was born on February 17, 1932 in Newcastle, Nebraska to Otto and Rosie (Johns) Roost.  She attended country school until the 8^th grade, and lived on the farm. 

She married Melvin Engel in November of 1949 in South Sioux City, Nebraska, where they raised two children, Melvin Daniel and Richard Dewayne Engel.

Doris worked at Johnson Biscuit Company and IBP/Tyson for 12 years.  She left IBP to be a caregiver to her husband, and then later operated a day-care.  Melvin died on April 15, 1982.  She enjoyed camping, traveling, sewing, crocheting, and dancing.  She met Sylvester “Vet” Beckman at dances, and later married him on December 28, 1989.

The couple spent all the winters in Mission, Texas for 24 years, then moved back to Laurel, Nebraska so they could be close to the family.  They traveled to many places.

Doris is survived by her son Richard “Rick” (Bev Reinart) Engel of Homer, Nebraska; sister Yvonne Emmons of Hubbard, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, son Melvin Daniel Engel, brothers Louis, James, Clifford, and Dewayne Roost; sisters Joyce Rechkemmer, Leona Porter, and Theresa Severson.
