Donald "Dale" Traver

April 19, 1938 — February 14, 2023

Donald “Dale” Traver, 84 of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023.  A memorial visitation will be Monday, February 20, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. with a time of sharing at 2:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.  

Dale was born the son of Maurice and Mildred (Burger) Traver on April 19, 1938 in Sioux City, Iowa.  He graduated from East High School in 1956 and attended Morningside College where he played football.  Dale married Katherine Winkler on February 2, 1963 in Sioux City.  They enjoyed 60 years together. 

Dale worked for Milwaukee Railroad as a switchman for several years before purchasing Retailer’s Transfer.  He owned and operated his delivery service business until his retirement.

Dale enjoyed being outdoors golfing, snow skiing, camping, and boating.  He owned several boats over the years and back in the mid-60s, he owned one of the first Mustang convertibles in Sioux City.  Dale and Katherine enjoyed traveling the country together and enjoyed trips to Utah, San Francisco, Colorado and many other locations.

Dale is survived by his wife, Katherine Traver of Sioux City; daughters, Lisa (Mark) Johnson of Waukee, Iowa and Kirsten Traver of Cave Creek, Arizona; grandchildren, Bethany Johnson, Matthew (Sarah) Johnson, Luke Johnson, and Christopher Johnson; and great-grandson, Arlo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wayne and Robert.
