Donald E. “Don” Lehmann, 92, of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at a local care facility following a courageous battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Don was born on October 26, 1931 in rural Plymouth County, to Elmer and Lucille (LaBahn) Lehmann. In the 8th grade, he moved from the farm to Sioux City where he attended school and graduated from Central High School in 1949. Following graduation, Don enlisted in the United States Navy.
He married Barbara Anderson on May 8, 1951 in Allen, Nebraska. While he was stationed in San Diego, California, they had their first child, a son, Mark Andrew. After Don was discharged from the Navy, the family moved back to Sioux City.
Don was a man of many talents and trades, and he loved to work with his hands. He told his children he was “born to work!” and retired not once, but three times. Following his military service, Don worked at Sioux City Stationary, until he started his own business in 1982 called Sioux Business Products. Don worked with his son and daughter until the sale of Sioux Business Products which then became Second Season Consignment Shop where the whole family worked together, including Bailey, the Bernese Mountain Dog.
He was an active member of the Abu Bekr Shriners Foot Patrol and later was elected to the Office of the Potentate. Don and Barb traveled frequently with the Shriners and loved every minute. Don, along with his brother-in-law, helped Mark win the Soap Box Derby in Sioux City in 1967.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lehmann; children: Julie Lehmann and Blake Lehmann; two grandchildren; and a sister, Marlene Chase.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark Lehmann; and a sister, Dorothy McKee.
