Don H. Schultz, 89, of Sioux City died on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2024, at Faith Lutheran Church, 3101 Hamilton Blvd, Sioux City. Burial will be at a later date at Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Don was born June 12, 1935, in Lytton, Iowa, the son of Vic and Helene (Rohr) Schultz. He graduated from Lytton High School in 1953 and from the University of Iowa in 1958. He served in the US Army for two years at Fort Hood, Texas and Butzbach, Germany.
Following his military service, Don was employed for two years at Conservative Bond and Mortgage Company in Sioux City. In May of 1962, Don moved to First Federal Savings and Loan Association, retiring from First Federal on December 31, 1996.
On September 9, 1956, Don married Marilyn Nebergall of Tipton, Iowa at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Iowa City.
Don was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux City and served as Treasurer for many years. He also held offices as President, Secretary, Stewardship Board Chairman and Elder. Don also served on the board of the Lutheran Service Society which sponsors The Good Shepherd Hour. Don was a member of the Sioux City Noon Lions Club and also active in the Sioux City Toastmasters. He was actively involved in the Republican Party serving as Treasurer and President of the Woodbury County Young Republicans and as Treasurer of the Woodbury County Republican Central Committee. He was a Republican precinct committeeman for many years.
He is survived by a son, Brent Schultz and his wife, Joan, of Harrisburg, PA; a daughter, Beth Simmons and her husband, Patrick, of Bloomington, MN; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Schultz, Grant Simmons and Kara Simmons; a great granddaughter, Emily Schultz; two sisters, Della Appel of Tulsa, OK and Leah Colburn and her husband Tom of Tulsa, OK; and a brother, Richard Schultz of Ridgecrest, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marilyn on December 15, 2014; a grandson, Trey Schultz; a great granddaughter, Olivia Schultz; two brothers, Otis Schultz and his wife, Lee, Victor Schultz; and in-laws, Robert Appel and Phyllis Schultz.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church, The Good Shepherd Hour, or St. Paul’s Lutheran School.
