Dennis Gene Mogensen, 69, formerly of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on September 22 at a Colorado Springs hospital surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 12 at 4:00 pm at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Visitation with family present from 3:00-4:00 prior to the service. Private graveside burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Dennis was born on August 20, 1951 at St. Vincent Hospital in Sioux City to Gene & Shirlee (McClary) Mogensen. He grew up on a farm in Sergeant Bluff, Ia, graduating from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1969 & attended Morningside College for two years. He served in the Army National Guard for 5 years and worked for Duenow Mgmt for 30 years managing KFC stores in Sioux City & South Sioux then owned/operated One Of A Kind Pizza in Colorado Springs & was employed at Home Depot in Colorado Springs for 15 years until his retirement in 2017 due to declining health.
He was united in marriage on June 3, 1972 to Jane (Hansen) Mogensen and to this union he was blessed with three children. He loved attending and cheering on his children's sporting events, working in his yard and spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.
Dennis will be missed by many. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Jane Mogensen; his children, Joel (Cait) Mogensen of Thornton, CO, Rebecca (Austin) Valencia of Aurora, CO, and Jacob of Colorado Springs. Grandchildren; TJ Mogensen, Kendall and Gracie Valencia. Brother David (LouAnn) Mogensen of Sergeant Bluff, Sister Cheri Mogensen of Mesa, AZ, Brother-in-law Randy (Becky) Hansen & Sister-in-law Julie (Mike) Koson both from Sioux City and much loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both sets of grandparents, mother & father-in-law and several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
