Dennis Melvin Hawks 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23rd, 2026, at Floyd Senior Living Center in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

Dennis was born June 30th, 1940, in Sioux Falls, SD to Gordon and Hazel (Hubbell) Hawks. He grew up in South Sioux Falls and moved with his family to Huron, SD in 1954 and graduated there in 1959. He joined the US Army in 1960 stationed in Germany. He was united in marriage to Sandra Lilly on September 2nd,1972 in Aberdeen, SD and they eventually settled in Sioux City, IA in the late 70's.

Denny loved sports and served on the Sioux City Bowling Association eventually becoming president.

He was an avid Nebraska Huskers football fan and attended many games. "Go Big Red"

He was a member of the Riverside Lutheran Church serving on the council, as a Sunday School teacher, and as an usher.

Dennis was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Sandra, and a son Timothy.

Left to cherish the memories are a son, Lance (Lorie) of South Sioux City, NE, a daughter Angela (Marc) Johnson of Richmond, TX, and daughter Sarah Mohr of Port Deposit, MD; ten grandchildren: Cody, Tabatha, Dakota, Brandon, Natasha, Christopher, Joshua, Kane, Kayla, and Marc Jr. and numerous great grandchildren.
