Dennis T. “Denny” Dohrman, 80, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Avera McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Denny was born on March 27, 1943 in Hastings, Nebraska, to Henry and Catherine (Dunn) Dohrman. He grew up in Sioux City, the family moved to town when Denny was only a year old. Denny graduated from Central High School in 1961. He joined the United States Army. In 1968 and served in Vietnam until 1969. Denny obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from USD in 1972 and then continued his education at Bell Labs in Electronics.
On September 1, 1989 Denny married Georgia Smith in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple spent years living in Spencer and Des Moines before settling back in Sioux City.
Denny worked as a troubleshooting technician for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring after 36 years with the company. He was also involved in various community organizations, including the VFW, American Legion, NRA, CWA #7103, Hawkeye Gun & Pistol Club, and the Siouxland Metal Detecting Club.
In his free time, Denny enjoyed metal detecting, bottle hunting, gun collecting, hunting, and gold panning, rock collecting, rock polishing, hiking and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His favorite hike was the Volksmarch at Crazy Horse Monument in South Dakota.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Dohrman; his children: Leslie (John) Anderson and Lance Smith; grandchildren: Tatiana , John (Kylie), Jaelynn, Zaiden, Jorja, and Eleanor; step-grandsons: Michael and Robert; and a great-granddaughter on the way; Victoria Eleanor. He is also survived by his brother Henry (Lorrie) Dohrman, sister Mary (Greg) Sexton; sister-in-law, Shirlie Dohrman; many nieces, nephews, and friends; a grand-dog; Dash, and two great-grand-dogs; Winston, and Amp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ron Dohrman, his mother-in-law, father-in-law, three brother-in-laws, and his sister-in-law.
