Delores Irene (Carlson)Townley went to be with her beloved husband, Lynn on March 13, 2025. A visitation will be held at 10:00am followed by a service at 11:00am on April 26th at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, Pastor Mark Bedford officiating. A luncheon will follow the service.
Born to Alfred and Nettie Carlson in Hornick, IA, Delores grew up in the country, attended a one-room schoolhouse, and later graduated from East High School. She went on to lead a remarkable life filled with quiet strength, quick wit, and a deep love for her family.
Delores worked as a legal secretary with the US Attorney’s office, a court reporter for Woodbury County, and the USDA office in the Sioux City Stock Yards. Her skill with shorthand was legendary-so much that even Christmas lists were kept secret when drafted in shorthand.
Outside of work, Delores loved dancing-including square, and round (which she and Lynn also taught) and ballroom. She enjoyed playing cards (bridge, shanghai, golf and “marbles”), bowling, golfing, and her attempt at water skiing –the family remembers that as being a “one-and-done" sport for her. Sundays meant family brunches with her favorite strawberry waffles.
Delores is survived by her loving children: Deb (Mike) Main, Gale (Biddy) Townley, Jon (Barbara) Townley, Vicki (John) Ackerman, Randy (Rhonda) Townley, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Erma Comstock, sister-in-law Rene Amendt, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lynn, her parents, brothers Don, Darrell, and Lynn Carlson, 7 brothers-in-law, 7 sisters-in-law, grandson Brett Townley and great grandson Taylor Rowan.
