Dean F. Stoll, 89, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 after fighting a great battle with many health issues. A Memorial Service will be held at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Visitation with family will be held one hour prior to service. Dean was born in 1933 to Fred and Ruby (Clements) Stoll. Dean lived all his life in Sioux City, graduated from East High School, was a Korean War Army Veteran and retired from MidAmerican Energy in 1991 after 35 years of service. He married his grade school sweetheart, Margie (Law) Stoll, and they celebrated over 50 years of marriage before her death in 2011. To this union, two daughters were born, Deana Polak & Debra Stoll (deceased). Dean was a strong family man, a passionate fisherman, an exceptional wood craftsman and a football lover. Dean and Margie received the nicknames “Grandpa & Grandma Nut” and that is what their entire family called them! He was the biggest supporter of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their accomplishments in life. He instilled a great work ethic in them to help them succeed. He was the entire family’s superhero and the heart, soul and rock of his family. Minnesota became the entire family’s “Happy Place.” First was the cabin they built on Clitherall Lake where his children and grandchildren grew up loving Minnesota lake life. In the later years, it was Bonnie Beach Resort on the same lake. Dean was so proud to be able to teach his entire family how to fish, which was his favorite activity in life! Each year in June, the entire family would be at their “Happy Place” together to enjoy family time with him and compete to see who could catch the biggest fish. He is survived by his daughter, Deana Polak and husband George Polak, Jr. of Dakota Dunes; grandchildren: Jill Sponder of Dakota Dunes, Elizabeth Zahner and her husband Josh of North Sioux City, Ben Polak and his wife Natalie of Sioux City, Jennifer Plathe and her husband Rick of Dakota Dunes, and Holly Breugem and her husband Josh of Hawarden; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great -grandchild; and a sister, Karen Phythian of Fruita, CO. Preceding him in death is his wife Margie; his daughter, Debra; a brother, Jerry Stoll; and his parents. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to one of the following: Sioux City Gospel Mission or the Saturday in the Park Festival.
