Born May 29, 1966 and passed November 6, 2022, David spent most of his life in Sioux City, IA. He graduated from Sioux City West High School in 1984. Following high school, he spent a summer as a farm hand on his uncle’s farm in North Dakota and installed car audio equipment at Audio Vision. His personality suited his work in customer support for MCI Communications. He was later employed for numerous years at Wells Blue Bunny Ice Cream. He was a self-taught jack of all trades and always willing to help. He made many repairs for family and friends.
Whether you were meeting David for the first time or the thousandth, his kindness and patience made an impression. He valued the relationships in his life and made time with his friends and family a priority. He took time to listen and thoughtfully respond; he never made you feel rushed when spending time with him. In his free time, he enjoyed visiting with friends at Bad Fast Hobbies and Shooter’s Paradise.
David married Somjit in 1993. This also introduced his stepdaughter Becky to his life. David and Somjit enjoyed each other’s company whether it was a Sunday drive, going to a movie or simply taking care of their cat and dogs. David was of particularly supportive of his mother, Ruth Ann, in her later years and, subsequently, his Aunt Bice. No one was surprised to hear stories of outings with them for meals or shopping – or just stopping by to visit them at home. After the passing of his mother, David and Somjit were the last of the Lorius family remaining in Sioux City. This never prevented David from being in the know of all things happening in the family. He was frequently on the phone and in communication with his stepdaughter and siblings, getting all the updates on his grand-daughter Grete, niece, nephews. He would always go out of his way to travel to see his family for special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, special performances, etc.
David is survived by his wife, Somjit, stepdaughter Becky (Philipp) Stolz of Sunland CA, grand-daughter Grete Stolz of Sunland CA, sister Dawn Schmidt of Olathe KS, brother Daniel (Mai) Lorius of Merriam KS, brother Michael (Carita) Lorius of Olathe KS, and his beloved Niece and Nephews, Josh, Travis, Emily, Alex and Logan. He also leaves two great-nephews Gavin and Rhett and one great-niece Savannah. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ruth Ann Lorius.
David will be missed by those who knew him well. May we all carry on his legacy of patience, steadiness, and humor.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 2nd at the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel at Noon, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 and a Graveside service at 2:00 at Logan Park Cemetery.
