In Loving Memory of Herman “David” Scholten

David Scholten, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many was born in Alton, Iowa on October 25, 1942, and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, generosity, and unwavering commitment to his community. Funeral services will be held at Peace Reformed Church, 4100 North Outer Drive, Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 10:30am with Pastor Jason Van Wyk officiating. Visitation, with the family present will begin on Saturday morning at 9:30 at the church. Memorials may be directed to Siouxland Food Pantry. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements.

A lifelong educator, David dedicated many years to teaching Driver’s Education at Sioux City West High School, where he touched the lives of countless students with patience, encouragement, and genuine care. Outside the classroom, he gave freely of his time, volunteering for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and serving proudly as a member of both the Kiwanis Club and the Shriners. When asked about his most memorable volunteering moment, he shared about being on the Lawton-Bronson school board and helping to pass their new school.

David had a zest for life and a gift for connecting with others. He enjoyed spending time with his slow-pitch softball team, being on the golf course, trying his luck at the casino, and lending a helping hand to his friends and neighbors. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was an active and devoted member of his church community. Of all his roles, however, his greatest joy came from being a husband, father, and grandfather. Time spent visiting his children and grandchildren brought him endless happiness and pride.

He is survived by his loving wife, Henrietta, and their two children: Sam Scholten and his wife Cherie, along with their sons Nathan and Evan of Omaha, Nebraska; and Suzanne Scholten and her husband Joseph Tonzola of Ithaca, New York.

David’s life was one of service, love, and laughter—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
