Daryl D. Hoover

April 11, 1951 — March 19, 2023

Daryl D. Hoover, 71 of South Sioux City, Nebraska died on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at his residence comforted by his wife Pattie after his long battle with kidney failure.  Abiding by his wish, cremation has taken place and a visitation will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the family residence, 112 E. 23rd Street, South Sioux City, Nebraska.  A second visitation will be on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.  at Victory Hills Church of the Nazarene, 6200 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas 66102.  Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel has assisted the family.

Daryl was born on April 11, 1951 in Kansas City, Kansas to Millard Ray and Helen Louise (Manthei) Hoover.  He graduated from Washington High School in Kansas City, Kansas with the Class of 1969.  Daryl married Patricia “Pattie” L. Brown on November 27, 1971 in Kansas City, Kansas. 

Daryl started work with the United States Postal Service immediately following his high school graduation and worked all the way up from carrier to clerk in Kansas City before relocating to Garden City, Kansas as Assistant Postmaster.  In 1993, he was promoted to Postmaster in South Sioux City, Nebraska until 1996.  Daryl was postmaster in Jackson, Nebraska from 1996 until 2005, when he retired. 

Daryl is survived by his wife Patricia “Pattie” L. Hoover of South Sioux City, Nebraska; daughter Heather R. Norton and her husband David of Ulysses, Kansas and their children Abraham, Leah, and Kathryn; son James “J.D.” Hoover of Tulsa, Oklahoma and his children Khloe and Emma Lynn; son Michael “Mike” Hoover and his wife Joanna of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and their child Kane; sister Connie Thompson and her husband Edwin of Gardendale, Alabama; and sister Lori Shafinia of Kansas City, Missouri.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson Andrew John McFarlin.
