Obituary

Daryl Dean Heimgartner, 77 of LeMars, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, unexpectedly at his home. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City with Reverend James Travis officiating. Abiding by family wishes, cremation will follow the service, and inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation, with the family present, will be on Sunday, April 19th from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with a Prayer Service beginning Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

Daryl was born on September 6, 1948, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Rueben and Florence (Reinholdt) Heimgartner. He graduated from Remsen-Union High School in 1966. Upon graduation, Daryl attended Airline School at Gale Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He started his career on September 1, 1966, with Ozark in Chicago, Illinois, and transferred to Sioux City in October of 1968.

Daryl married Sharon Johns on December 14, 1968. They lived in Sioux City and to this union, three sons were born, Randy, Travis, and David. Daryl was transferred to Jacksonville, Florida in August of 1992 and later to St. Louis, Missouri in January of 2002. During his 50-year career within the Airline Business, he went from Ozark, TWA, and then to American Airlines.

They moved back to Sioux City in January of 2017. His beloved wife, Sharon passed away on June 1, 2019. Daryl married a special lady, Norma Jean Jaacks, he knew her when he was in high school and they went to the same church.

Daryl is survived by his wife Jeanne; son Randy (Andrea) Heimgartner and their sons Christopher (Brianna) and Andrew (Morgan) and great-grandson Oliver; son Travis (Gina) Heimgartner and their children Tristen and Trenton, along with step-grandchildren Gavin and Riley Jelken; son David (Jeannette) Heimgartner and their children Adam, Bryce, Caleb, and Barrette, along with great-grandsons Remington and Myles; special niece Jaci (John) Rupert; sister-in-law Judy Heimgartner; niece Jill (Mike) Shuman; sister-in-law Linda (Bob) Greene; brother-in-law Dennis (Mary) Johns; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Daryl was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, parents, brothers Wayne and Kenneth (Marcia), in-laws Delbert and Eva Joy Johns and George and Verna Jaacks.
