Obituary

Darold R. "Dick" Sea, a cornerstone and lifelong resident of Sioux City, passed away March 21, 2026. A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, he passed away peacefully at the age of 95 surrounded by his children. A man whose life spanned nearly a century of change, Darold remained a constant force of stability, leadership, and love for his city and his family.

Born on August 5, 1930, Darold’s long life was defined by a tireless work ethic and a heart for service. As a longtime educator, principal, Personnel Director, and Interim Superintendent within the Sioux City Schools, he mentored generations of students and staff, many of whom still remember "Mr. Sea" for his firm guidance and genuine care. His civic contributions were vast, from his leadership in the Iowa PTA to his dedicated volunteerism at the Sioux City Public Museum, where he curated a world-class postcard collection that captured the history he lived through.

While his professional accolades were many, Darold’s greatest pride was his family. Married to his late wife, Alice Yvonne, for 63 years, they built a foundation that now supports four generations. He was the devoted father of four children—Cindy (Jeff), Douglas (Liz), Martin, and Marci (Mark)—who saw firsthand how a life of integrity is lived. Darold’s legacy truly shines through his 10 grandchildren and his 21 great-grandchildren. To them, he wasn't just a community leader; he was the storyteller, the historian, and the steady hand at every family gathering. Many of the family’s most cherished memories were made around a card table with him at the center. Even at 95, his sharp mind and warm spirit made him the center of their world, and he took immense joy in seeing his "greats" grow and thrive.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation and a time to share stories about Dick on Thursday, March 27 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel (3220 Stone Park Blvd.) from 4:00 to 6:00 pm with sharing of memories at 5:00 p.m. A service to celebrate his well-lived life will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church (600 Court St, Sioux City, IA 51101) on Friday, March 27, at 11:00 am with a luncheon to follow. In recognition of his lifelong commitment to service, memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Midwest (304 W 28th St, Sioux City, IA 51104).

Darold will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His family will carry his favorite words with them always “love you more.”
