Danny was born on January 3, 1942, near Sergeant Bluff, IA, the son of Edwin and Willys (Hopkins) Morey.
Dan attended Central High School in Sioux City. In 1960, Dan joined the Iowa National Guard for four years, completing his basic training in Fort Dix, New Jersey. Dan worked for Gates Rubber Company for 22 years and Jefferson and Dakota Valley High Schools until his retirement.
Dan married LaNora Hicks on October 27, 1962, at the Church of All Nations in Sioux City. In 1969, they purchased their acreage north of Sioux City, where they raised their girls and continued to reside.
Dan’s mother taught him how to play the guitar at a young age. He sang and played country western music alongside his musically talented family. Two of his favorite artists were George Jones and Elvis Presley.
Dan had a love of older cars and could tell you the make, model, and year at a moments glance. His mother always told him in a loving way that he had a motor for a brain.
Dan and LaNora enjoyed camping, traveling to the Black Hills, Branson, MO, and Arkansas with his cousin Nolen, and his wife Judy.
After retirement, Dan enjoyed discussing current events with his coffee buddies which he was able to do up until his passing with the help of his wife and daughter, Tamara.
Dan attended Westfield Congregational Church. He loved spending time with his family, tending to his acreage, and especially enjoyed mowing.
Dan will always be remembered for his quiet demeaner, love of animals, and his devotion to his family.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, LaNora; daughter Roxanne (Jim) Hoffman of Westfield, IA and their children Kaylee (Wade) Kuchta, Kurtis (Heather) Hoffman and their children Alexa and Mason; daughter Tamara (Bob) Steen of Courtenay, British Columbia and their children Alexis (Tiffany) McKee and their children Sam, Laney, and Rocco, Hunter McKee (special friend Christa Castle); sister Nancy Morey of Jefferson City, MO, several nieces, nephews, and his extremely spoiled cat, Gracie.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jeanenne and brother-in-law Frank Leedom, brother Jim (Marianne) Morey and nephew Jim Morey Jr., and we cannot forget about his faithful miniature donkey Cisco, that he had for over 30 years.
You may be gone from our sight, but you are never gone from our hearts.
