Danny Allan Manchester

January 23, 1952 — July 25, 2023

Danny Allan Manchester, 71, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at a local hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service.  Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Danny was born January 23, 1952, in Moline, IL, the son of John Melvin and Violet Rose (Kiefer) Manchester.  He graduated high school from South Gate High school in South Gate, California in 1970 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was assigned to the destroyer USS Brinkley Bass. Danny spent the next eight years in the Navy, stationed at Pearl Harbor and including a tour to Vietnam.

After being honorably discharged, Danny worked in California for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.  He also worked as dock security and a prisoner escort.  Upon returning to Iowa, he worked at the Argosy Casino for 19 years, before retirement.  Danny married Cheryl Hulit on July 23, 2001.  Danny was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, shooting guns.  He was always on the go, but the rare times he did sit down, Danny was always accompanied by his beloved dogs:  Blaze and Doby.  He was a former Patriot Guard Rider.

Survivors include his wife Cheryl Manchester of Akron, IA; sons:  Andrew Blandel and Adam Manchester of Sioux Falls, SD; siblings:  Barb (Kevin) Kluver, Dennis Manchester, Judy Manchester, William (Lori) Manchester, and Irene (Steve) Kirlay; brother-in-law:  Tom Higa; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Danny was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters:  Peggy Higa and Sharon Cook.

In lieu of flowers, Danny’s wishes were that donations be made to support any military cause.
