Daniel Anthony Vondrak

August 27, 1956 — May 11, 2023

Daniel A. Vondrak, 66 of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at a local hospital.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Sioux City with Father David Hemann as Celebrant.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Thursday, May 18th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church.  Family will be present at 6:00 p.m., a Rosary Service will begin at 6:45 with a Vigil Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Fred Karpuk as prayer leader.  Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family.  Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com  Memorials may be directed to the family for donations to Daniel’s favorite charities.

Daniel was born on August 27, 1956 in Sioux City, Iowa to Gilbert “Gib” and JoAnn (Wacker) Vondrak.  He graduated with the Class of 1974 from Bishop Heelan High School, received his Bachelors degree from Iowa State University, and his MBA from the University of South Dakota.  He married his wife Deanna on June 11th, 1981 in Sioux City. 

Daniel was the Director of Internal Audit for IBP for nearly 10 years, during which time he obtained his CPA & Masters degree.  He was the Vice President of Finance at Irving F. Jensen Construction for 7 years, and eventually ending up as President of Impact Accounting.  He enjoyed his membership to Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, was a board member at Siouxland Federal Credit Union for 25 years, and was a member of AA for 49 years.  He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for over 25 years and most recently at St. Michael Catholic for the past 10 years.

Daniel loved coaching his kids in various youth sports and sang in the Blessed Sacrament Choir for over 20 years.  He was an avid John Deere Precision Series collector, enjoyed supporting his Green Bay Packers; Iowa State Cyclones, and spent many days or hours car shopping and testing radio speakers.  He loved nothing more than singing to and with his kids.

Daniel is survived by his son Joshua (Haley) Vondrak of Papillion, Nebraska and their children (his grandchildren) Kyley and Landon; daughter Victoria (Rob) Wort of Wentzville, Missouri; and daughter Rachel Vondrak of Kalona, Iowa; brothers Greg (Anna) Vondrak and Curt (Sue) Vondrak; brother-in-law Mike Cheever; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and an uncle.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, sister Gayle Cheever, grandson Jaxon Vondrak, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
