Daniel "Dan" Paul Wanderscheid

March 4, 1951 — January 15, 2024

Sioux City, IA

Daniel “Dan” Paul Wanderscheid of Sioux City, IA passed away on Monday, January 15, at the age of 72. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.) in Sioux City with Deacon Pat Roberts officiating. The family will greet family and friends starting at 2:00 pm on Sunday.

Dan was born on March 4, 1951 in Kingsley, IA to Paul and Ethel Wanderscheid. The family moved to Sioux City, where he graduated from Heelan High School in 1969 where he was a four-sport athlete. He attended Parson’s College, on an athletic scholarship graduating in 1973. Dan moved back to Sioux City, where he met and married Kirk Kositzky on Dec. 13, 1975.  They had a son, Jacob, and daughter, Whitney. Dan worked for DeDe Beverage as a truck driver working his way up to salesman.  He transitioned with DeDe Beverage as they became Messer and then Glazers. In the early 2000’s, he transitioned to a sales position at Roger’s Electric which become Echo Electric until he retired in December 2018.

In recent years, you could find Dan out at Miner’s Bend during the spring, summer, and fall.  He loved boating, riding jet skis, and hanging out at the Sippy Hole. In his younger years, he spent several years playing competitive softball at Floyd Softball Complex– most notably for Prescott’s.  He was known for hitting the ball hard, gaining the nickname “Dr. Longball”. He loved to bowl and play billiards.  After his grandkids came, he loved going to their sporting events and dance shows, where he had almost perfect attendance. He treasured going on his annual Nascar trip with Jacob and his grandson Jensen. He loved (or hated, depending on the score) to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings. He maintained his love of baseball, following his lifetime team, the New York Yankees.

Aside from his love of athletics, Dan enjoyed everything about his family. He was their number one fan, always there to offer his love, support, and encouragement.  He gave the best bear hugs. He did anything and everything for his family.
