Dale A. Chicoine, of Jefferson, SD, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in Omaha, NE at the age of 88. Dale, the son of Gerard and Agnes (DeLaurier) Chicoine, was born on September 11, 1936, in Sioux City, IA.
Dale was raised on a farm near Jefferson, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the land. He attended Jefferson High School, graduating with a commitment to serve his community. After high school, Dale proudly served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge, upon which he returned to Jefferson to continue his family's farming tradition.
On January 26, 1963, Dale was united in marriage to Sheryll Reding in Bode, IA, and their union was blessed with two children. Together, they cherished the outdoors, enjoying fishing, camping, and wintering at their home in Arizona. Their love for family and each other was evident in their daily lives.
In addition to his farming endeavors, Dale was a devoted member of St. Peter's Church, actively involved in church activities, the community, and served on the Jefferson Elevator Board.
Dale's personality was characterized by his caring nature, friendliness, and a distinct talent for cracking jokes. He loved visiting with people and never met a stranger, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Following the death of his wife, Sheryll, on January 31, 2019, Dale moved closer to family and resided in Elkhorn, NE.
Dale is survived by his son, David (Paula) Chicoine of Elkhorn, NE; daughter, Suzanne Hansen of Scottsdale, AZ; two granddaughters: Hayley Chicoine of Scottsdale, AZ and Emma (Zach Heins) Chicoine of Sioux Falls, SD; and one brother-in-law, Sandy Otte of Wakefield, NE. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-laws, along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sheryll; son-in-law, Greg Hansen; and three siblings: Bernadine (Everett) Brown, Geraldine Spartz, and Mary Kay Otte.
Visitation will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson on Monday, May 5, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, all charity donations will be directed by the family.
