Sioux City

Craig D. Evans, Jr., 87 of Sioux City passed away Monday, August 5, 2024. A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 9, 2024 at Grace United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow services at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Craig was born the son of Craig D. and Adale (Noyes) Evans, Sr. on April 26, 1937 in Myrtle Point, Oregon. His family moved to Sioux City, Iowa in his early childhood years. He graduated from Central High School in 1956 and then attended Morningside College. In 1971 he met a girl, Marilyn Cates, on a blind date arranged by her roommates. Both found a friend for life, and they married April 7, 1972. Together they were a team through thick and thin. They raised two sons and Craig was a great dad. He was patient, loving, and devoted to whatever interests his boys had. He was so proud of all their accomplishments.

Craig had several jobs before beginning his career at Equifax where he would retire after 30 years as an insurance investigator.

His love was the pursuit of golf. He read about it, watched it, and played the game. He came up with the idea of “The List” for his golf buddies and it still exists all these years later, albeit many of the 18 original members have passed. He had many memories of his beloved Green Valley Golf Course where he was a member since its existence. He had three holes-in-one! He was also a great dancer, who had a knack for stirring up the dance floor at weddings and family functions.

Craig was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Craig is survived by his wife, Marilyn Evans of Sioux City, Iowa; sons, Brian Evans of Sioux City, Iowa and Brett (Teresa) Evans of Cave Creek, Arizona and their son, Camden; and brother, Gary Evans of Sioux City, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Sharon.
