Obituary

Connie Colleen Lemmon, a devoted mother, loving wife, and compassionate soul, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Sioux City, Iowa, after a courageous battle against cancer. A Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.

Born on March 8, 1939, in Sioux City, Connie was a cherished fixture in the lives of all who knew her, remembered for her enduring kindness and unwavering dedication to her family and the world around her.

Connie, née Hollister, received her education through the South Sioux City, Nebraska Public School System, laying the foundation for a life defined by love and care. Early in her life, she married David W. “Dave” Gill, and together they raised a family that became her greatest source of pride and joy. Later, in the late 1970s, she married Stephen Lemmon in Elk Point, South Dakota, embarking on a new chapter filled with companionship and mutual devotion.

Proud to have been a stay-at-home mother, Connie treasured her role as a homemaker, where she poured her heart into nurturing her children and creating a warm, loving home. Her proudest accomplishments were raising her children and delighting in the laughter and milestones of her grandchildren, whose presence brought immense light into her life.

Connie’s spirit was one of generosity and kindness extending beyond her family to the countless animals she saved throughout her life. Cats, dogs, and any wandering critters fortunate enough to find their way to her porch were met with the same gentle care and refuge that defined her character. She was truly a guardian angel to those in need, a testament to the boundless compassion she carried within.

Her love of the outdoors was palpable. Some of her happiest memories were spent on the water in the family boat—fishing, feeling the sun on her face, and the freedom that only nature can provide. Connie also had a fondness for collecting coffee pots and teddy bears, each treasured piece a reflection of her unique personality and the warmth she shared with others.

Connie is lovingly remembered by her husband Stephen “Steve” Lemmon of rural Elk Point, South Dakota; her sons, David J. (Chris) Gill of Sioux City, Iowa, Russell Gill of Waterbury, Nebraska, and Robbie D. (Devilin) Gill of South Sioux City, Nebraska; her daughter, Traci A. (Brian) Kruk of Omaha, Nebraska; alongside her cherished grandchildren Cory Peterson, Mindy Warns, Tyler Gill, Cody Gill, Tristan Gill, Trisha Boltjes, and Michael Jackson. Her large extended family, including thirteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives, also mourn her passing while celebrating the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

Connie’s parents preceded her in death, but her spirit lives on vibrantly in those she loved and cared for so deeply. Comforted by St. Croix Hospice and surrounded by family in her final days, she faced her illness with grace and strength, a reflection of the incredible woman she was throughout her life.

Her passing leaves a profound void, but the echoes of Connie Colleen Lemmon’s warmth, love, and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. As a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, her memory is a beacon of unconditional love and compassion—a light that will never fade.
