Obituary

Connie Colleen (Hollister)(Gill) Lemmon, a devoted mother, loving wife, and compassionate soul, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Sioux City, Iowa, after a courageous battle against cancer. A Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska with Father Paul Albenesius officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.

Born on March 8, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa. Connie was a cherished fixture in the lives of all who knew her, remembered for her enduring kindness and unwavering dedication to her family and the world around her.

Connie Hollister, graduated from the Class of ‘57 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Early in her life, she married David W. “Dave” Gill, and together they raised a family that became her greatest source of pride and joy.

Connie treasured her role as a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, where she poured her heart into nurturing her children and creating a warm, loving home. Her children were her proudest accomplishments. She loved the laughter and milestones of her grandchildren. It brought immense light into her life.

Later, in ‘82, she remarried Stephen “Cork” Lemmon embarking on a new chapter filled with companionship and devotion. They resided in Elk Point, South Dakota, where she worked at Well Life Assisted Living for several years.

Connie’s generous spirit extended beyond her family to the countless animals she saved throughout her life. She was a guardian angel to cats, dogs, and any wandering critters fortunate enough to find their way to her porch. The animals were met with gentle care and safety that defined her character. She was a guardian angel to those in need, a testament to the boundless compassion she carried within.

She enjoyed the outdoors. Some of her happiest memories were spent on the river boating, fishing, feeling the sun on her face, and the freedom that only nature can provide. Connie also had a fondness for collecting coffee pots and teddy bears, each treasured piece a reflection of her unique personality and the warmth she shared with others.

Connie is lovingly remembered by her husband Stephen “Cork” Lemmon of rural Elk Point, South Dakota, sons, David J. (Chris) Gill of Sioux City, Iowa, Russell (Shelly) Gill of Waterbury, Nebraska, daughter, Traci A. (Brian) Kruk of Jackson, Nebraska; and son, Robbie D. (Devilin) Gill of South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Also remembering her are her cherished grandchildren Cory Petersen, Mindy Warns, Tyler Gill, Cody Gill, Tristan Gill, Trisha Boltjes, and Michael Jackson. Her large extended family, including thirteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also mourn her passing while celebrating the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

Connie’s parents preceded her in death, along with her sisters: Karen, Shirley, Chris; brother Don, nieces Roxy and Kendra. Her spirit lives in those she loved and cared for so deeply. A special thank you to St. Croix Hospice and Holy Spirit who helped care for her in her final days. She faced her illness with grace and strength, a reflection of the incredible woman she was throughout her life.

Her passing leaves a profound void, but the echoes of Connie’s warmth, love, and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. As a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, her memory is a beacon of unconditional love and compassion—a light that will never fade.
