Chuck Beermann

Charles “Chuck” Beermann, 86, of Dakota City, NE passed away Thursday morning Aug 28, 2025. Services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025 at Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City. Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept 1, 2025 from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at Salem Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.

The son of Loy Beermann and Ruth Helen (Rundell) Beermann, Chuck was born in Tuscola, IL on Aug 27, 1939. Soon after, the family moved back to Dakota County. He attended a one room schoolhouse, Meridian, before graduating from South Sioux City High school in 1957. He attended UNL, graduating in 1961 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. During this time, he made many trips to Omaha to visit a certain nurse that he had his eye on clear back in high school.

After graduation, Chuck married that nurse Sandra, and they lived in Dakota County for almost 58 years. Chuck spent his first 10 years raising pigs and cattle. After those 10 years, he decided to focus on his true passion, raising corn and soybeans. Chuck was a progressive, business minded farmer with a strong desire to preserve the land for the future. He was also a DeKalb seed dealer, working with many Dakota County farmers. After nearly 45 years of farming, he retired in 2006 to spend more time traveling and attending many of his grandchildren’s activities.

Chuck enjoyed playing cards, fishing, water skiing, golfing, and visiting with family and friends. He was a bit of a risk taker, and in his retirement years, slowly marked things off of his bucket list - sky diving, water rafting, and zip lining. Together with family and friends, he made annual trips to Minnesota and became a snowbird in TX making new friends. Dad and Mom together created a welcoming home to anyone, and a blessed life for their three daughters.

He was a member of the Homer School Board for over 20 years. He was also an active member of Salem, serving on the Church Council, teaching adult Sunday School and doing behind the scenes projects on the property committee. He is probably best known for his amazing sweet corn patch that many in the community have enjoyed.

Chuck is survived by his three daughters, Tera Beermann of Lincoln, NE, Patti Shepard of Lenexa, KS, and Shelly (Brent) Hollinger of Stromsburg, NE; 5 grandchildren, Collin (Kaitlin) Shepard, Kristin (Brent) Hirsch, Grant (Jasmyn) Hollinger, and Cory and Tanner Hollinger.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra; parents, Loy and Helen Beermann; and sisters, Marlene (George) Clarke and Mary Lou (Jim) Haggart.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church, the Homer Community Education Foundation, or to the family.
