Christopher "Bubba" Matthews

March 8, 1978 — April 9, 2023

Christopher Ray "Bubba" Matthews, 45, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, after suffering from a heart attack.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel (3220 Stone Park Blvd.) in Sioux City. There will be no burial at this time.  Following the services, a luncheon will be held at the Sioux City Elks Club. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Prayer Service at 7 p.m.

Chris “Bubba” is the son of Tresa Matthews and the late Ray Meehl. At a young age, Bubba was adopted by a very special man he called dad, Lewis Matthews.

Chris “Bubba” had a very special sister, Megan. He was so proud of all her accomplishments. Her “little bit” as he called her, Arya, was Bubba’s pride and joy.

Chris “Bubba” attended grade school at Whittier Elementary and Morningside Christian. He earned his high school diploma while excelling in football from North High School in Sioux City graduating in 1997.  The football team used to call him “Happy”. (Meehl.)

Chris “Bubba” was currently working for RedBox as a regional support technician and for Union 42 Stagehands. He loved working the late-night shifts with all the guys, setting up stages and meeting all the performers. KGB stagehands won’t be the same without the “B”. Bubba will be greatly missed.

Chris “Bubba” met the love of his life, Nancy Nicolls, over 17 years ago. Together they enjoyed the outdoors, camping, top-down riding around in their jeep, racetracks, and their beloved fur kids- Kinnick, Hank, and Herky.

Chris “Bubba” had a passion for dirt track racing. The racing world will miss Bubba’s character and strong hands that helped everyone. At a young age, he met his best friends, Dirk and Jill Kirk. Bubba was a staple to their household. He supported and watched their children grow up; he truly loved Sami and Willy.  Bubba was an advocate and the best crew chief to both Dirk and Willy’s racing teams. The 86 racing crew will forever have an empty hole without their “Uncle” Bubba.

Survivors include the love of his life Nancy Nicolls, his mother Tresa Matthews, sister Megan (Matt) Beck, sister Teresa Jura, brother Greg Meehl, brother Alan Meehl, brother Doug Meehl, sister Paula Souder and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Preceded in death by his biological father Ray Meehl, his dad Lewis Matthews, and infant sister Spring Meehl.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Kamradt, Dirk, Jill, Willy and Sami Kirk, Gene Verdoorn, Craig Kratz, Jason, Jared and Justin Ritchie, Randy and Mike Gulick, Kirk and Jake Wiggs, James and Declan Warner, and Brad Verzani.

Chris “Bubba” was a very special guy that never left the house without a smile. Even on his worst days, he always carried his heart on his sleeve. He will be missed by so many.  Bubba was an organ/tissue donor, so his kindness will continue to help those in need.
