Charles “Chuck” E. Smith, 74 of South Sioux City passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026. A memorial visitation will be Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 11:00 A.M. to Noon with military honors at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Chuck was born the son of Charles F. and Inez (Seaton) Smith on March 9, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended South Sioux City High School and then was drafted into the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge, Chuck made his way back to South Sioux City and made his home.

In his younger years he worked in the meat packing plants. Later, he helped build cell phone and communication towers.

Chuck was a simple man. He enjoyed watching Nebraska Husker and New York Jets football. He liked fishing, golfing, and playing games on his PlayStation. Chuck will be remembered for his kind spirit and his quick comebacks and jokes.

Chuck is survived by his children, Trent Smith, Tonya (Roger) Maryott, Jacklyn Janssen, and Justin (Mariah) Smith; siblings, Carol Roberts, Ralph Smith, Larry Smith, Audrey Navrude, Ron Smith, Deb Buys, and Robert Smith; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice; nephew, Ryan; and brother-in-law, Butch.
