He was born November 13, 1980, in Omaha, NE to Gary L. Coleman and Mary L. (Niels) Backman. Chad was born with DiGeorges Syndrome, and while this might have presented him some challenges, he never let it stop him. He had a strong will and once he decided he wanted something, nothing got in his way. Not much frightened him, and you could always find a smile on his face.

Chad graduated from South Sioux City High School in 2000. Achieving his diploma was a deep source of pride and a symbol of his accomplishment. He enjoyed playing sports as a child and even competed in the Special Olympics. His medals proved his competitive spirit.

Chad loved playing pool with his dad. He enjoyed video games. It would not be uncommon to find Chad watching Nebraska football, the Kansas City Chiefs, or WWE. He had a corgi he loved very much and he never met a stranger. Chad was always looking for opportunities to help and offered his services whenever the situation presented itself. Chad was a young man that was full of life.
