Catherine J. "Cathie" Wingert

Catherine Joyce "Cathie" Wingert, 76 of rural Bronson, Iowa passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024 peacefully in her sleep.  A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Deacon Fred Karpuk officiating.  Refreshments and fellowship will follow.  Visitation, with the family present, will an hour prior at the funeral home.  A Committal Ceremony will be held at a later date off the shores of Hawaii.  Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Memorials may be offered to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Noah’s Hope in Cathie’s name.

Catherine was born on May 26, 1947 in Hutchinson, Kansas to George H. and Martha Lou (Fouts) Sallows, Jr.  Born to a military family, Cathie moved to Hawaii, West Virginia, and Iowa.  She received her education at Central High School in Sioux City, graduating with the Class of 1965.  She continued her education at Briar Cliff University studying Art and Psychology.  Cathie married Dwight Wingert on January 21, 1967 at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, Iowa and moved to the family farm outside Bronson, Iowa.  The couple enjoyed 56 wonderful years. 

During her working career, Cathie was a medical unit secretary at the St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City followed by her medical secretary position at Family Health Care of Morningside until her retirement.  She enjoyed her membership to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, Iowa where she taught Sunday School, CCD classes, and was a Eucharistic Minister.  After retiring, Cathie volunteered at Unity Point Hospital in the OB Department, where she was a “Cuddler” in the NICU.

Catherine is survived by her husband Dwight Wingert of rural Bronson, Iowa; daughter Michelle (Mike) Kelly of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; sons Dustin (Anna) Wingert and Aaron (Nicole) Wingert, all of Bronson, Iowa; 8 grandchildren Brittany (Nico) Marasco of Omaha, Nebraska, Nick (Tessa) Kelly of Clive, Iowa, Chris (Millie) Bennett of Bronson, Iowa, Trae (Lexi) Wingert of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Nathan (Cassidy) Kelly of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Nathan (Julia) Bennett of Ankeny, Iowa, Brooklyn Bennett of Bennington, Nebraska, and Reilly Freeman of Bloomfield, Nebraska; three great-grandchildren; and sister Linda Thomas of Sioux City, Iowa.

Cathie was preceded in death by her parents, aunts Pat and Joyce, uncle Ken, cousin Kelly, mother-in-law Leila, father-in-law Bill, and brother-in-law Loren.
