Caryl E. Dunne, née Wittkop 81, of Sioux City departed this life on July 27, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center. She leaves behind an indelible legacy rich in love, compassion, and a spirit that was truly one of a kind—a spirit that will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
Caryl was born on October 24, 1943, in Le Mars, Iowa to George and Elizabeth Wittkop. Educated in her hometown of Le Mars prior to attending beauty school. Caryl devoted much of her adult life to the artistry of beauty and self-care, owning and operating the New Image beauty salon, where she created not only stunning hairstyles but also an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie for her clients and staff alike. Her career, culminating in a well-deserved retirement that echoed her commitment to enhancing the lives of others through her craft.
Beyond her professional achievements, Caryl took immense pride in her family, which she regarded as the cornerstone of her existence. Among her most cherished accomplishments were her marriage to her beloved husband Jerry and the joy of raising their children. Caryl is survived by her devoted daughters, Cindy (Kevin) Digmann of Iowa City, IA, and Kim (Jeff) Jansen of Des Moines, IA. The joy of her life blossomed further in the shapes of her grandchildren: Matt, Zach, Taylor, Bailey, and Gabe, as well as the delight brought by her great-grandchildren, Wesley, Carter, and Ellie.
Caryl also leaves behind her loving siblings—brothers Jim (Mary) Wittkop of Colorado and Wayne (Judy) Wittkop of Le Mars, IA, and sister Mary (Gary) Lohff of Yankton, SD; sister-in-law, Betty Wittkop —as well as numerous nieces and nephews whose lives she touched in profound ways.
Amongst her many interests, Caryl adored spending time with her family and friends. She found pleasures in traveling, shopping, leisurely walks, and enjoying the thrill of a good casino. Her laughter and zest for life were infectious, fostering connections that drew people to her like a moth to a flame.
Caryl was preceded in death by her treasured husband, Jerry, along with her parents, three brothers, and a sister, who welcome her into their embrace in the peaceful hereafter.
The life of Caryl E. Dunne will be celebrated at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, Iowa, with a visitation commencing at 10:00 AM and continuing until the memorial service at 11:00 AM on August 1, 2025. Caryl will then be laid to rest in a burial ceremony at Memorial Park Cemetery following the memorial service.
As we gather to honor the memory of Caryl, we hold fast to the blessings she has bestowed upon us—a life well-lived marked by love, laughter, and a profound commitment to family and friends. Her remarkable journey may have come to an end, but the echoes of her spirit and the warmth of her love will forever reside in our hearts.
